The iPhone - My Opinions
May 5th 2010 15:17
The problem with the iPhone is that it brings up such strong emotions amongst many people. Some people will say “I love it” and refuse to listen to any of its flaws. Others will say “it’s a waste of money” when they’ve never used it. I’ve owned an iPhone for around a year now and while I think it’s a fantastic phone there are definitely some problems with it that needs to be addressed.
Firstly, I don’t like how most Apple products use such a closed off system. I like open-source software and although the app-store is brilliant it’s still limited by what Apple wants you to use. The issue with Flash at the moment is a prime example. Although this isn’t a major issue on a phone it’s the main reason why I’m not going to buy an iPad.
Another problem is the battery life. If you’re going to use the phone purely for texting and making calls then it’s fine – but who buys an iPhone to do that? If you want to do any sort of resource intensive task then the battery runs out frighteningly quickly. Make sure you have an in-car charger if you plan on using the phone whilst on the go.
The fact that the iPod can’t multi-task at the moment is also mildly annoying. I’ve heard that this is going to be fixed in an upcoming update though which is great news.
With all that said, I still wouldn’t want to go with any other phone! There are so many great things about the iPod that more than make up for its fault. The screen is always clear and sharp, the app store has every sort of app you could ever need (and more besides) and the internet functions are very useful. I don’t know what I’d do without having access to my emails on a constant basis anymore.
The bottom line is, the iPhone isn’t perfect but in my opinion it’s one of the best phones available on the market at the moment. Just because some people like it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have its faults and anyone who claims otherwise is deluding themselves. Remember, Apple makes good products but they are just a business trying to make as much money as possible. No one owes them any loyalty – you should only buy the iPhone if you think it’s the best phone for you.
