My View On the iPad 2
April 4th 2011 11:36
The iPad 2 is upon us, and I thought I’d write a blog post about it even though this is really meant to be a mobile phone blog. I’m sure a lot of people who’re interested in mobile phones are also interested in technology like the iPad 2, and there is a lot of overlap in terms of technology (touch screen, 3G etc).
The problem I have with the iPad 2 is that people fall for the same marketing tricks every time. When Apple released the iPad everyone knew that it had some key features left out of it, yet everyone still went out and bought it. Now Apple put those features (which should have been in the initial version) into a new product and everyone goes mad for it again. It’s only been a year since the first one was released!
Don’t get me wrong, Apple certainly aren’t the only company to do this, but they are probably the most high profile example. It’s good marketing form their point of view, but people should really realise by now that in a year’s time they will release a “new” model with the features that should have been in the initial version and then call it ground breaking.
Obviously, the world of tech moves quickly so it’s no surprise that people aren’t willing to wait another year. There are other options though, and people will have a lot more control over their products if they take the time to research what’s around rather than just going for the Apple product. I like Apple – they make some good products – but I can’t understand this obsession with them. They are masters at branding, so there is a lot to be learned from them, but that doesn’t mean people should be fooled time and time again.
